The rules

We have graciously been allowed to host this speakeasy in a business that’s been a part of downtown Macon for twenty plus years—the Downtown Grill—and therefore, the first, and most important rule of all, is that we entirely respect the patrons, management, and ownership of that establishment: there will be no hooting, no hollering, no exaggerated silly walks or stomping; no banging or slamming (in all meanings of the words), nor will there be any vandalism, unauthorized exploration or plundering, nor any type of non-permitted and non-accompanied entrance to any part of the Downtown Grill that is not specified directly by one of your bartenders. We’re here because we’re allowed to be, and we have no intention of losing that right.

Except for open seating on Wednesdays, we’ve got reservations from the hours of 4 to 11 on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. For those who make reservations, please show up on time. We won’t financially penalize you, but we do save phone numbers, and as children of the early 2000s, we run a strict three-strikes-and-you’re-out-style ship. Please arrive within a 10 minute window, youre only losing out by getting fewer cocktails.

Third, we have a pretty solid record collection here at the bar, and we encourage you to use it and spend some time looking through it. If you can’t figure out what you want to listen to, we’re all qualified musicians behind the bar—we won’t hesitate to help you out. That being said, we also have a huge liability in providing these records. So don’t forget—we get your credit/debit card information when you pay for your drinks.

We aren’t afraid of a little experimentation. We have a curated menu that involves chewing a whole miracle berry to alter your perception of flavor. This may effect your taste if you’re eating downstairs later in the evening, therefore, we want each person to be aware: the effect lasts for different durations for different people, so use discretion: we do NOT want anyone to leave a bad review at any restaurant because of this drink (specifically DTG). We also ask that each individual who tries this fruit and drink combination be aware that the FDA has not sufficiently tested this fruit, and therefore it has not been FDA-approved. We have a liability waiver that we ask each person who tries this combination to sign. There is no evidence that this is a harmful drug or fruit: it has been used for centuries in Africa, and is currently being tested on cancer patients to help them regain the ability to taste (chemo side effect). It is not regarded as harmful. The manner in which we serve this berry is fully in accordance with FDA guidelines (not in pulp, powder, or protein form). I repeat: it is not illegal or unsafe, it just hasn’t been fully investigated by the FDA in a laboratory setting.

Cigars: coming when we blow out the wall!

Lastly, and most importantly,

no gambling.

Cheers.
